Charter Spectrum rollout begins for Time Warner Cable users

Time Warner Cable’s transition to Spectrum has begun in force, with the cable and internet service provider stepping up its marketing campaign and offering updated pricing tiers and bundling options for new and existing customers.

Charter Communications in May acquired Time Warner Cable – and its 11.4 million residential and business customers – along with Bright House Networks, for roughly $67 billion. The resulting company will be marketed under the Spectrum brand name.

Why Higher Highs Could Be In Store For Time Warner Stock

Media behemoth Time Warner TWX -0.75% has put in an impressive year on the charts. Since the start of 2016, the shares have rallied 19.4%, managing a series of higher highs along the way, including a 52-week peak above $80 last month.

While TWX has pulled back some in recent weeks, bulls will be happy to know that the stock’s rising 160-day moving average sits just below.

Time Warner Cable's long-anticipated name change became official Tuesday as Spectrum became the Coachella Valley's largest television provider.

While the name has changed after the May merger between Time Warner Cable and Charter Communications, customers will not need to make any changes with their current accounts.

Time Warner Cable Gets Appellate Victory in Antitrust Case

The industry has been on the defensive about the expensive set-top boxes that customers rent in order to receive cable television services.

In the past year, the issue of expensive cable set-top boxes has been an explosive one both in courts and in regulatory quarters. The latest development came on Friday when the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a decision to reject an antitrust lawsuit accusing Time Warner Cable of impermissibly tying premium cable television services to the leasing of these cable boxes.

By contrast, Walt Disney (DIS) has seen its YTD stock price fall by 10.8%, and Viacom (VIAB) has seen its stock price rise by only 1.5%, while Twenty-First Century Fox (FOXA) has declined by 9.4% YTD.
