Time Warner Cable is now officially Spectrum

Time Warner Cable's long-anticipated name change became official Tuesday as Spectrum became the Coachella Valley's largest television provider.

While the name has changed after the May merger between Time Warner Cable and Charter Communications, customers will not need to make any changes with their current accounts.

Customers have the option of remaining in their current Time Warner Cable package or they can sign up for a new package of cable, Internet or home telephone with Spectrum.

"It's not just a name change," said Spectrum spokesman Dennis Johnson. "Current customers, if they're happy, do not need to switch their packages."

One new change that Spectrum is bringing to the Coachella Valley is faster Internet speeds for those who make changes to their current package. Spectrum Internet plans now start at 100 Mbps, with no data caps or usage-based pricing. Spectrum plans also do not charge a $10 monthly modem rental fee.

The fastest speeds with Time Warner Cable were 50 Mbps. Internet speeds will remain the same for those who choose to keep their Time Warner plan, but Johnson said customers may see a slight increase in speed.
