Time Warner Cable is hiring 50 customer service representatives and field technicians in the Portland area to serve customers over the phone and in person, the company said Friday.

Time Warner would not disclose salary ranges for the available positions. According to the online employee survey website glassdoor.com, the typical Time Warner customer service rep earns $13 an hour, and the typical field technician earns $16 an hour.

Time Warner Cable Arena Being Renamed ‘Spectrum Center’

The Time Warner Cable Arena, the home of the Charlotte Hornets, is being renamed “Spectrum Center” to reflect the branding of Charter Communications, which wrapped up its acquisition of Time Warner Cable in mid-May.

The naming rights for the arena went to Charter following the merger. Charter uses the Spectrum brand for its range of video, Internet, voice and business services. TWC entered the original agreement in 2008 with Hornets Sports & Entertainment.

Charter Communications expects higher than previously outlined cost savings from two big recent acquisitions, chairman and CEO Tom Rutledge said on the company's second-quarter earnings conference call on Tuesday. He didn't immediately detail the new targets.

Time Warner Cable privacy lawsuit dismissed by Wisconsin judge

A U.S. district judge in Milwaukee has dismissed a lawsuit that accused Time Warner Cable of keeping subscribers' personal information after they ended their cable service.

Derek Gubala, formerly of Oak Creek, claimed that Time Warner Cable kept personal identifiable information such as names and addresses, birth dates, Social Security numbers and credit card accounts of former customers, in violation of the Cable Communications Policy Act.

Time Warner Cable fights rural NC co-ops on utility pole fees

Time Warner Cable says it’s being bullied by five North Carolina electric cooperatives and is accusing the rural monopolies of charging outrageous fees for letting the cable company lease space on utility poles.

Time Warner has sued the rural co-ops at the N.C. Utilities Commission, asking the commission to help resolve ongoing contract disputes over fees the co-ops charge for leasing space on some 75,000 utility poles in North Carolina. The disputes result from utility pole lease contracts that expired in recent years and are bogged down in negotiations.

Apple Executive Raised Prospect of a Bid for Time Warner

Apple expressed interest in buying Time Warner, the owner of HBO, CNN and Warner Brothers, in a meeting held late last year, according to a report in the Financial Times.

The paper claims Eddy Cue, who oversees Apple's iTunes store, Apple Music and iCloud, raised the subject of a potential bid in a meeting with Olaf Olafsson, Time Warner's head of corporate strategy, in New York. The Financial Times cites three people who were briefed on the discussion.

A majority of the five-member U.S. Federal Communications Commission has voted to approve Charter Communications’s acquisitions of Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks, two sources briefed on the matter said on Thursday.

Time Warner Cable says it is encouraged by the company's skinny bundle trials, but given the company's looming acquisition by Charter, that may not mean all that much. Since late 2015 Time Warner Cable has been running a trial in New York that provides a free Roku 3 and a smattering of different cable networks -- without a traditional cable box. According to the promotional flyer being sent to users, customers under the trial have the choice of a $10 20+ channel bundle, a $20, 20+ channel bundle with Showtime and Starz, and a $50, 70 channel bundle that also includes Showtime and Starz.
